Clutch Change 2016

With the hoist pushed under almost touching the number plate ...

... the hook is several inches shy of the middle of the engine.

With the bumper and grille removed ...

... it's just past.

Double-jacking I can slide the ramps under the front tyres, and the legs of the hoist just fit between them.

Redrilled through the existing holes

It's out! Clean under the oil filter since I changed the adapter.

Release bearing - one for the chamber of horrors ...

... with the cover plate being another, also showing blueing and wear marks on the fingers ...

... from one of the forks

Friction plate less than half worn after 50k

Roller bearing significantly offset to one side ...

... from the positioning of the arm, which was the same with the arm turned over i.e. it's not the arm that is bent.

Same with the new bearing, even after adjusting the tightness of the pivot bolt which does move the arm a little.

By grinding down one side of the arm boss ...

... the new bush protrudes on the other side and a spacer is fitted over it ...

... to lift the arm ...

... into the correct 'sideways' position. There is nothing you can do about the 'vertical' positioning which changes as the bearing is moved back and fore.

Very mucky, although still clean around the rocker cover and side covers which were attended to some time ago. A bit shiny under the cover-plate for the mechanical fuel pump aperture, so that gasket was replaced.

Front half cleaned. To tackle the rear half I fitted old cooler and gauge hoses, and taped over the distributor hole, to keep the muck out.

Mystery grommet ...

... and the replacement.

Back in, just all the refitting to do.

Just enough (once I have the plug leads back on ...) to run the engine to check the clutch - no coolant as yet.
