Single-geared starter internals:
Mark Robinson's Moss US starter, connections out of sight:
Moss US WOSP starter with the slotted hole on the same side as the motor, which when at the bottom to aid fitting puts the motor below the solenoid and the solenoid connections on top (albeit on the chassis rail side, I've rotated and flipped this image for an easier comparison with the one below):
Moss Europe WOSP starter with the slotted hole on the other side which puts the motor on top of the solenoid and makes the solenoid connections more accessible:
Mark said if he turned his starter the same way it might foul the distributor and would put the connections close to the block. However that's just where the Moss Europe puts them, so presumably there must be enough clearance for both.
He made up a short extension for the battery cable, and with the Moss US sub-harness to provide the coil boost function extended the operate and coil boost wires as well:
He was then wondering if he should insulate that bolted connection in some way, I suggested he use the original starter boot which he has from the original starter, which would need a cable tie to hold it in place.
